Frequently Asked Questions
Q. We like you so much! Can you play longer than our contracted time?
A. Thanks, we like you too! If the party is really jumping and you hate to have to call an end to it all, we can continue playing at a discounted mutually agreed upon rate. If another company that you are considering tells you they will play for unlimited hours, that does not mean you are getting a deal. This claim implies you are getting something extra and the fact is most events only last about 4 hours. I have been to hundreds of weddings, birthday parties, and other types of events, both as a DJ and as a guest and I have never seen one last over 5 hours.
Q. Can Big Time Entertainment perform at events outside of The Midlands?
A. Absolutely! We love road trips. Small travel fee may apply.
Q. When do I pay you and why do I pay a deposit or retainer?
A. Your initial payment or retainer is for reservation purposes. This amount is typically half of the total contracted rate and is due when you submit a contract and will ensure that your date is reserved. The retainer is subtracted from the total amount owed. The final payment is due 14 days before your event. If any other company you are considering fails to provide a contract for your event, be very careful! I have heard horror stories about DJs not showing up for an event and never refunding your deposit. Contracts are designed to protect you and your money. Definitely sign a contract!
Q. What is your cancellation policy?
A. You will forfeit your deposit should you cancel for any reason. If you cancel within 90 days of event, full payment of wages or discount, agreeable to entertainer will be due within ten 10 days of cancellation date. The discount depends on whether we are able to re-book the cancelled date with another party. If something happens to your DJ such as sickness, accident, death, strikes, civil tumult, natural disaster, or other acts of God beyond the control of the entertainer, we will attempt to replace him with another one of our DJs. If this attempt is unsuccessful, we will then attempt to reserve a DJ from one of our partner DJ companies. If we are unsuccessful and have to cancel we will refund your deposit within ten 10 days.
Q. All joking aside, do you know what you're doing?
A. Rest assured... Big Time Entertainment is a professional DJ, lighting, audio/visual & entertainment company. We use the newest professional sound and lighting equipment and we are fully insured.
Q. What can I expect from Big Time Entertainment?
A. From our initial contact until the final piece of equipment is packed away, we will invest about 20 hours of time and call upon over a decade of experience to plan, prepare and personally perform at your event to insure that you and your guests have a stress free, smooth flowing, fun filled experience.
Q. Do I have to feed you?
A. We love being fed! We can even tell you where the best food is in South Carolina! However, it is completely at your discretion whether or not you decide to feed your DJ and other vendors. A meal is truly appreciated as your DJ often works for 8 hours at a time with very little time for breaks.
Q. How far in advance do I have to book you?
A. Since Big Time Entertainment is one of the top DJ companies in the southeast, we tend to book-up very quickly! We recommend that you contact us at least a year in advance to get first dibs on our availability for your event. The sooner, the better!
Q. Can you provide the music for my wedding ceremony?
A. Absolutely, we can provide a dj, violinist, string quartet, classical guitarist, pianist/organist, vocal soloist, and many other types of musicians for your ceremony.
Q. Should I be leary of extremely low price quotes from other DJ companies?
A. YES! The average cost of a disc jockey for 4 hours in South Carolina is $700. If someone gives you an extremely low price, combined with the pressure of having to book right then over the phone, it is probably a “start-up dj” hurting for business. DJ's whose rates that are extremely low often use amateur equipment and have a very poor music selection. Most have little experience as an emcee and may not even be in business by the time your event date arrives.
Q. Can you provide a light show or any other types of lighting?
A. Yes. We have tasteful, yet dynamic dance floor lighting that moves in sync with the music. This creates a festive atmosphere and motivates your guests to dance. This versatile multi-effect light show is matched to the style of music being played and customized for the size of the event facility. We also have monogram spot lights and up lighting. Check out our lighting/effects page for details.
